As part of our work for the Considerate Constructors Scheme we’re delighted to have led a charitable project to help new mums in Harrogate.
The aim was simple: unite the building’s community and our teams for a collaborative effort that leaves a positive impact on the local area.
Led by Resident Liaison Officer, Anna Thomas, we spoke to residents to see how we could help with any causes close to their heart. During these conversations we found out that a resident was due to give birth towards the end of our project and, with a team member recently celebrating a new arrival and another colleague expecting a baby, we decided to get involved with Harrogate Hospital maternity ward.
We worked with hospital teams, residents and onsite colleagues to come up with the idea of providing packs of essentials and gifts for new mums. Hamilton QS, Mark Tilley enlisted his mother to create beautifully hand knitted cardigans, which were delivered along with muslin squares, baby blankets, baby grows, hats, nappies, wipes, maternity pads, breast pads, cotton wool and lip balms.
We even worked with a restaurant that is also part of the building to secure vouchers for parents to celebrate the new addition to their family. Everything was packaged in a stylish reusable bag as we were conscious that new mums were leaving with their hands already full!
We were welcomed to the maternity ward by hospital staff and we even got to meet family members of the new mums, who were all delighted with the packs. Since then, we have received an official letter of thanks as well as an invitation to one of the hospital’s upcoming charity events and we will be meeting the team to build on the success of this partnership.
It is just one of the projects undertaken as part of the Considerate Constructors Scheme – we look forward to sharing more success stories!
