Located just outside the city centre, our Burley Street project continues to make great progress despite the challenges of working on a tight site with limited delivery and storage space. Our experienced team has expertly navigated these constraints, working around other trades and adhering to a robust schedule to keep everything on track.
As part of our commitment to sustainability and supporting local biodiversity, we’ve installed a range of bird and bat boxes on site. These include 5 swift bird boxes, 2 sparrow bird boxes, and 5 bat boxes. Built-in bird boxes provide a safe, sheltered nesting site for cavity-nesting birds, especially when natural tree cavities are scarce. By offering a protected space away from predators and harsh weather, these artificial nesting holes help species thrive.
According to Wildcare, natural nest sites are being lost, with devastating consequences for bird populations. Birds play a crucial role in maintaining functioning ecosystems, directly impacting human populations and millions of other species. Swifts, for instance, travel from Central and Southern Africa to the UK for just a few months each summer, but their numbers are declining due to modern construction sealing off traditional nesting sites.
Onsite, construction is moving forward well. Over half of the building is now brick slipped and pointed, with the remainder boarded and scrimed, ready to receive the slips or await pointing.
