The government has introduced a much-needed initiative known as the Cladding Safety Scheme (CSS). This program, unveiled last month, marks a significant step towards addressing the pressing issue of cladding-related fire risks, with the primary aim of swiftly ensuring the safety and peace of mind of residents in affected properties.
The CSS is designed to tackle the potential life safety hazards associated with cladding, recognising the urgency of these concerns.
Its overarching goal is to ensure that residential and commercial leaseholders, regardless of whether they have protection against paying service charges for cladding-related repair work within their lease agreements, receive the support they need to rectify these safety issues.
Funding is available towards eligible costs that would be borne by residential or commercial leaseholders whether or not they benefit from protections against having to pay service charges towards equivalent works to fix cladding via commitments in their lease.
